My Mother, Mrs. Lela Belle Horton Golden, the daughter of the late Homer Horton and Thelma Morgan
Horton Watkins was born on January 31, 1937 in Jackson, Tennessee. She departed this life on April
8, 1997 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN.

What a virtuous woman she was...and the wind beneath my wings!!

She was my dearest friend, and we talked almost every day. She was a dear mother who always put her
children first.

She was educated in the public school system of Jackson, TN. She was a very intelligent woman...At
the age of 14 she was a Junior in high school, and would have been a Senior had the system allowed
her to be advanced further.

She became a christian at an early age and united with the Cerro Gordo Missionary Baptist Church in
Jackson, TN. She was an active and faithful member there...involved in many capacities... President
of the Missionary Society, Sunday School Teacher, and many other areas, where she served
diligently.

(Below is Reprinted from Obituary)

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Cleveland Golden. She leaves to cherish her memory:
Five daughters, Sandra (Morris) Chandler, Gretelle (Joey) Ingram, Renee' (Rev. Matthew) Tate, Thelma
(Neil) Williams, and Sheila Foster, all of Jackson, TN; five sons, Robert (Donna) Henning, Jr. of
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rev. Vincent (Sonia) Golden of Lake Alfred, Florida, Michael Golden, Byron

The Lord needed a flower
and that flower was you
so he picked you up from down here
and up and up you flew ~~

He planted you in his garden
he said 'You'll stay here now with me'
and there you'll stay away from harm
the prettiest flower you'll always be ~~

Although we cannot see you..
We know you are around
You walk beside your family..
You don't even make a sound

I know that you watch over..
Your family from up above
So I writing you this poem..
And It's made with lots of love

Keep your family strong..
'Cos they love you very much
And please remember Angel..
Always stay in touch

If you see your family cry..
Blow them down lots of love..
You will always be their Angel..
In heaven up above

"Family Chain"

Little we knew that morning,
God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.

Miss Me...But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the day
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love we once shared,
Miss me but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the maker's plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds -
Miss me, but let me go.

She Shall Be Praised...

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth no the bread of idleness.
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
Give her the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

- Proverbs 31: 10, 25-31

My Mother...the wind beneath my wings!!

My Mother…the one who birthed me into this world…and nurtured me to become all that I am…and who loved me unconditionally…and became my best friend…who I could talk about anything with…You beautiful, unselfish, caring angel. You are “The Wind beneath My Wings.” There is nothing or no one anywhere, ever, better than the true love of a Mother.
You made me feel that I could move mountains, cross the widest sea, and conquer all. There was never a time that you did not encourage and allow me to be the best that I could be. Thank you that I’m who I am today because you challenged me to “give it all I’ve got,” “ Keep God First,” “love endlessly,” “never quit,” and “treat others as I want to be treated.” Values are taught…and Mom you taught us well…You were definitely one of a kind!!
As Washington Irving once penned…A father may turn his back on his child; brothers and sisters may become inveterate enemies; husbands may desert their wives and wives their husbands. But a mother's love endures through all; in good repute, in bad repute, in the face of the world's condemnation, a mother still loves on, and still hopes that her child may turn from his evil ways, and repent; still she remembers the infant smiles that once filled her bosom with rapture, the merry laugh, the joyful shout of his childhood, the opening promise of his youth; and she can never be brought to think him all unworthy.
Life without you Mom can never be the same…but with faith and hope, I look forward to that sweet day when we shall meet again!! I love you dearly!!
